Young People in the Lead

What young people from care and custody want you to know before you work with them: a suite of resources co-created with young people

Young people told us that they would like to be involved in training practitioners about the needs of young people who have been in care or custody. So we listened. Then we gave them a budget and a project coordinator.

Through the resources in this section, they share their views on what good support looks like, and how to build effective relationships with young people who find it hard to trust.

Using These Resources

These resources are provided free of charge and have been designed to be useful to anyone who encounters young people in the course of their work. They were created to help improve understanding and awareness of the issues which face children and young people involved in the care and custody systems. They do not assume any specialist knowledge and are designed to be accessible to practitioners across all sectors, not just those working in health and social care. The resources will also be relevant for working with other children and young people impacted by trauma.

Training Modules

These short training modules consist of PowerPoint presentations with trainer’s notes included on each slide. They do not require prior knowledge of the subject and can be delivered with a minimum amount of preparation. These sessions are ideal as introductions to the subjects to stimulate further thinking and investigation.

Take a look at our short guide How to Deliver Training Modules for more info.
